History

With the introduction of locked and armoured cockpit doors, Bournemouth Aviation set to work to develop an aircraft CCTV system that would be capable of allowing the pilots to view the area outside the door to ensure it would be safe to open.
The SKYCAM FDDMS has been designed to meet the requirements of ED-123 (see below) and ICAO Annex 6.
During design the following issues were driving factors:

• Ease of use by the Flight Crew - we have had excellent feed back by all the airlines that operate SKYCAM
• Ease of retrofit
• Low installation time
• High reliability

In the FAA Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), [Docket No. FAA-2005-22449] Flightdeck Door Monitoring and Crew Discreet Alerting Systems, Bournemouth Aviation are listed as a supplier of these systems.

Features

The SKYCAM FDDMS system comprises of a 4" Colour TFT Monitor with selectable camera inputs. Each camera is auto-focusing, auto contrast and auto low light operation (Infra Red option available). The integral power supply feeds all cameras, therefore the only aircraft interface is 28V DC and optional 5V or 28V lighting dimming.

SKYCAM FDDMS can be used in conjunction with our miniature SKYCAM Digital Recorder (SDR). The SDR records video images (and optional audio) to removable Flash Disks in an MPEG-2 format. Unlike MPEG-4 this allows direct transfer to DVD for use as courtroom evidence.

Design and Certification

Each SKYCAM system is supplied with an EASA approved modification specific for the customer’s aircraft, installation kit, technical publications, installation instructions and office based techical support.

We can also offer FAA approval for all aircraft types.
